Cultural Happenings: Cultural Exchange in the Classroom - Argentina

Through the exchange visitor program, participants immerse themselves in American daily life, providing them with a nuanced understanding of American people and lifestyle that they can share with their friends and family upon return to their home country. The participants are able reciprocate the cultural education by share their culture with Americans through stories, cuisine, dances, and other uniquities of their culture. LifeTRAVELED recognizes the importance of teaching cultural competency and appreciation from a young age. To support this, LifeTRAVELED arranged a Culture in the Classroom event. Maria Mateos and Jazmin Abdala taught children from Freedom Elementary, a Spanish-English dual language school, about Argentina life and culture. Maria and Jazmin shared photos and stories from their person life, while also broadly speaking about what made Argentina special - the love of fútbol, the beauty of Iguazu Falls, the diversity of empanadas, the important celebrations, and more. After the. presentation, we passed out coloring handouts to connect Argentina’s culture, Spanish, and fun! As a keepsake, Maria and Jazmin (with Pilar and Constanza, also exchange visitors from Argentina) crafted friendship bracelets (LifeTRAVELED sharing an important American cultural moment - the friendship bracelet revival courtesy of the Swifties) with Argentina’s flag colors.
