Cultural Happenings: NYC Marathon 2022
Every year, tens of thousands of runners come to New York City to run a 26.2-mile race that goes through each of the 5 boroughs – Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan. In 2022 there were over 50,000 registered runners from over 125 countries. LifeTRAVELED participants had the privilege of volunteering at the Mile 6 Fluid Station alongside fellow BridgeUSA program participants from multiple sponsors. At our station we distributed Gatorade and water to thirsty runners as they breezed past. We worked with other volunteers to mix, pour, and pass throughout the duration of the race. When the final racer passed Mile 6, we worked together to clean up the Brooklyn street and get it ready for business as usual. It was a whirlwind of excitement and exhilaration as we watched the thousands of runners pass by, knowing that our contribution would help get them through to the end of the race. To each of our participants who took part in the event, our sincerest thank you for all your hard work and your stellar attitudes!
