Cultural Happenings: Pumpkin Patch

The magic of autumn lies in its seasonal activities. When the season turns, Americans worship the pumpkin in all its forms and gather at pumpkin patches to select their own gourd for decorating their home, cooking soups, or baking pies.

Mira, a culinary intern from the Philippines, joined us at Anderson Farms, a family-owned farm filled with autumn fun. We explored the winding corn maze, twisting and turning until landing exactly where we started. We climbed abroad a tractor for a scenic ride along dirt roads through the crops and along the expansive corn maze. As we hopped off the tractor, we were surrounded by seemingly endless rows of unique pumpkins reaching to the Flatiron Mountains. There were pumpkins the size of a golf ball and too large to carry, wart-covered odd balls and blemish-free prize winners, and various colors of the autumn rainbow. We carefully surveyed the season’s offerings for our perfect match. K.Leigh from LifeTRAVELED selected a petite striped cutie for her mantle, while Mira chose a fun shape for her future jack-o-lantern.
