Cultural Happenings: Solar Bears Game
To beat Orlando’s mid-winter heat, we traded sunshine for ice and brought our exchange visitors into the world of American ice hockey!
Sports are a universal language of emotion and energy. From leaning forward in anticipation of the next play to jumping out of their seats when they spotted themselves on the jumbotron, our exchange visitors experienced all the excitement of ice hockey as they watched the heated rivalry between the Orlando Solar Bears and the Florida Everblades during our latest cultural outing.
Of course, no trip to a U.S. sports stadium is complete without indulging in the classic game-day food experience. From buttery popcorn and waffle fries to nachos piled high with cheese, our exchange visitors eagerly joined local fans in sampling all the savory favorites.
For many of our participants, this was their first live hockey game — an unforgettable introduction to the sport and American sports culture. These community outings remind us how shared experiences create meaningful cultural exchange moments.
“It was my first hockey game, so it was a really exciting cultural experience. These activities have helped me learn more about American culture and spend quality time with other participants.” - Lara, Argentina
“The experience was so fun. We ate traditional food as pretzels and hot dogs and dance with the team’s pet.” - Lucia, Argentina
