The Best Part About Being a Camp Counselor

The best part about being a camp counselor is not the summer weather. Long days and warm nights, beautiful sunsets, and growing grass. Trees full of leaves and singing birds as your alarm clock each morning.

The best part about being a camp counselor is not the food prepared every day, by a talented and caring kitchen team. BBQ ribs so tasty you lick the bones clean, ice cream dripping down the back of your hand as it melts off the cone, hearty meals that remind you of home.

The best part about being a camp counselor is not the songs. Repeat after me, silly dance moves, and shouting across the campus. The best part about being a camp counselor is not the atmosphere of acceptance allowing you to be your silliest, weirdest, craziest, most authentic self.

The best part about being a camp counselor is not the activities. Intense relay races, afternoons spent out on the water, quiet reading time when the rain gently falls, archery, sports, arts & crafts, nature, climbing.

The best part about being a camp counselor is not the moment when a camper is having a no good, terrible, horrible, bad day and you manage to squeeze a smile out of their little face.

It’s not the stories told round a campfire late into the night. Or s’more gobbled up while you listen intently. It’s not the inside jokes or the big belly laughs. It’s not the patience you’ll learn or the friendships you’ll gain.

The best part about being a camp counselor is hard to explain, amazing to experience, and impossible to forget.
