Year In Review: Valencia Cultural Events 2018

Valencia, California is situated 35 miles north of Los Angeles, giving our Six Flags Magic Mountain participants easy access to some of the most sought after American cultural experiences. To make sure our participants had the opportunity to experience these, we arranged trips to The Getty Museum and Santa Monica Beach. Additionally, we hosted an EV Day event where WWCE and our participants gave back to Valencia’s Boy and Girls Club.

The Getty Museum

No matter what your interest is, the Getty Museum offers something for everyone. Their art collection spans from baroque 17th century paintings to contemporary American photography. The lush garden invites peaceful reflection and wonderment at the beauty of nature. Perched above the city, the Getty Museum’s view is an epic panorama of Los Angeles. The architecture highlights modern, expert craftsmanship. Our participants enjoyed exploring these various aspects during their day at the Getty.

Santa Monica Beach

Santa Monica Beach is an iconic destination, loved by both locals and tourists. Our California-based office loves to bring our participants here to show off California’s famous “fun in the sun”. Our participants wandered the Santa Monica Pier, home to rollercoasters and a Ferris wheel, walked along the sands, waded into the chilly Pacific Ocean, and shopped on Third Street Promenade - a trendy collection of world-famous stores and boutiques.

EV Day (previously known as JDAY)

On Monday, August 6, 2018, we joined a nationwide celebration of the power of international exchanges to raise awareness of the J-1 Exchange Visitor Program. EV Day’s motto “Eat, Play, Give” was lived out through tacos, sports, and school supply donations.

For this event, we partnered with the local Boys and Girls Club. At a park located next to the BGC facility, we joined with our participants and BGC members to snack on tacos from Takeros and engage in friendly sport competition. Takeros was the perfect blend of two American food favorites - California Mexican cuisine and food truck style eating - that we were excited to introduce to the participants. The participants and children played various games such as soccer, basketball, and giant checkers. To give back to the local community, WWCE donated backpacks stuffed with school supplies for 50 kids age 7-17, selected by the Boys & Girls Club.  Our coordinators and participants gave their time to assemble the backpacks and distribute them to the children. Overall, the day was immensely successful - filled with fun and doing good. We can’t wait to build on this experience at next year’s EV Day.
